What does a mobile app cost in 2026?

Why is this cheaper than most agencies quote?
You will see much higher numbers elsewhere. US agencies commonly quote $40,000 to $100,000 for even a simple app, and industry surveys put the average custom app around $150,000 to $170,000. Our ranges are lower on purpose, and it is not because the work is lesser.
Most of an app's price is labor, and labor rates vary hugely by region. We are a lean, senior studio with low overhead, not a large agency with account managers and layers of markup. You are paying for the engineers who build your app, not the office. The code is production quality, built in React Native the same way the expensive shops build it.
What protects you at a lower price is not blind trust. It is a fixed price agreed before any work, real apps you can open and use on the stores, full ownership of the code and IP, and a small first project so you can judge the work before the bigger spend. That is how we keep the number honest and the quality high.
What actually drives the price?
Four things account for most of the cost. Features come first. A booking flow with payments and user accounts is a different build from a static brochure app, and every extra feature is more design, more code, and more testing.
Second is the backend. If your app needs to store data, handle logins, or process payments, someone has to build the server, the database, and the admin behind it. That work is often larger than the screens people see, and it is easy to underestimate.
Third is design. A clean, custom interface takes more time than a template, and it is usually worth it, because a confusing app loses users no matter how good the code is. Fourth is platforms. An app that runs on both iPhone and Android costs more than one platform, unless you build it in a way that shares the code.
Why does location change the price so much?
The same app can cost three times as much depending on who builds it, because most of an app's price is labor and hourly rates vary a lot by region. A US agency and a senior offshore studio can ship the same quality; the difference is overhead, not skill.

Native or React Native?
This choice has a real effect on the bill. A fully native app means writing it twice, once for iOS and once for Android, which roughly doubles the build. React Native lets one codebase run on both, so most of the work is done once. For the large majority of business apps, that is the cheaper and faster path, and the performance is close enough that users cannot tell.

What costs are easy to miss?
The build price is not the whole cost of owning an app. A few things surprise first-time founders, so budget for them up front:
- App store fees: $99 a year for Apple, a one-time $25 for Google Play.
- Ongoing maintenance: plan for roughly 15 to 20 percent of the build cost each year to keep it running as phones and operating systems change.
- Backend hosting and third-party services: servers, databases, email, maps, and payment processors all carry monthly fees that scale with users.
- Updates for OS changes: Apple and Google ship breaking changes yearly, and an app that is never touched will eventually stop working.
